Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) are essential tasks that individuals perform every day to maintain their health, safety, and overall well-being. In Adult Foster Care program, ADLs include:

• Bathing: Assisting with personal hygiene, including washing and grooming.
• Dressing: Helping with putting on and taking off clothing or assisting with adaptive clothing.
• Eating: Providing support with meal consumption, including feeding if necessary.
• Toileting: assisting with bathroom needs and maintaining personal hygiene afterward.
• Transferring: Helping individuals move in and out of beds, chairs, or other stationary positions.
• Walking: Supporting mobility, including walking or using assistive devices safely.

These tasks are critical for ensuring that individuals can live with dignity and comfort in a home setting. For those who struggle with one or more ADLs, caregivers in the Adult Foster Care program provide hands-on assistance or supervision to meet these daily needs.

• Must be 18 years of age
• A caregiver can be a relative, friend, or person in the community who is willing to live with the client and provide the needed care.
• A caregiver agrees to provide assistance, supervision, and hands-on care as needed according to the client’s individual care plan.
• A caregiver must ensure the AFC client’s safety and well-being at all times.
• A caregiver must agree to a criminal background check (CORD.)

AFC agencies adopt a person-centered strategy, offering continuous assistance through a dedicated care manager and registered nurse to guarantee that the individual’s care requirements are fulfilled. This encompasses advocacy, care coordination, and clinical support. The AFC team conducts specialized training encompassing medication supervision and emergency protocols.
